The structure of HRA Masonry in England and Wales
Like Craft Masonry, Royal Arch Masonry in England and Wales is administered from Freemasons Hall in Great Queen Street near Covent Garden, London. Similarly, we are led by HRH The Duke Of Kent, KG who is The First Grand Principal of The Supreme Grand Chapter Of Royal Arch Masons Of England (Grand Chapter).
Beneath Grand Chapter, there are Provincial Grand Chapters each headed by The Most Excellent Grand Superintendant In And Over, The Masonic Province Of ......, in our case Berkshire.
Finally, there are local Chapters like the Abbey Chapter No. 945.
Chapters at all levels are governed by three Principals, imaginatively known as the First, Second and Third Principals. A chapter's secretarial duties are carried out by Scribe E, there is also a Scribe N with similar duties to the Inner Guard in a craft lodge. The work associated with the Deacons in a craft lodge is carried out by the Principal Sojourner. The reason for these different titles is explained during the Exaltation of the new Companion as chapter members are called.
